Well, that didn't work. Using OTA. ICS v4.0.3 with Bootloader 0.03.11-ICS (custom mode). Previous Recovery was v1.7 Touch.
Moved the new zip to the external sdcard and flashed from CWM. It reported all was well & A500 boots normally, but when attempting to enter recovery she hangs at the "Booting Recovery Kernel Img" small print.

Acer Recovery Installer v2.74 does not recognize the installed recovery.

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks for all you do.

first update your bootloader and custom recovery ,try this guide, if that doesn't work and you got fastboot working use the following

You take the zip from the attachments of this post and extract it .
You get your tablet in fatsboot mode with usb connected ot pc.
(you got to fastboot mode by pushing the power button and volume button up together)

Now you open cmd (command prompt) on the extracted folder "fastboot-recovery".

Then you type in cmd:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (enter) , that should flash the custom recovery on your tablet.

Remember , if you got a stock ICS rom (not a custom or the full root roms I posted) where you didn't deleted the "recovery-from-boot.p" from /system your recovery will be replaced by the stock recovery
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

How do I know what bootloader I'm on? I'm on the 1.7 recovery, and I don't want to brick my device.

Thanks for the prompt response. I had deleted the "recovery-from-boot . . . ." file, so that wasn't an issue. It always surprises me how 'cumbersome' some of these changes end up being, when it seems they should be fairly transparent. So I'm off to do some APX flashing!

.............. EDIT #1: as an intermediate step (as the APX Flash could be emergency fallback) I successfully reinstalled CWM (not a Touch version) using the Acer Recovery Installer. Another attempt at flashing v1.7.2 yielded the same result, however. I suppose it could have been a bad download, but the updated bootloader seems like the best bet. --LS

.............. EDIT #2: blackthund3r's v0.3.2 APX Flash Tool successfully flashed the V4 (0.03.014 ICS) unlocked bootloader, but the results are the same as before. Normal boot is fine (the new bootloader is recognized OK), but booting to recovery still hangs and the Recovery version is not recognized by ARI. ARI says it installs the old CWM, but now that won't boot either. Hmmmmmmmm --LS

.............. EDIT #3: created a folder containing the extracted recovery.img, fastboot.exe, and the two adb dll files. A500 booted fine into Fastboot mode and the 'Flash Recovery' command appeared to run successfully, but still no recovery and hanging on "Booting Recovery Kernel Image" when trying to boot to recovery. So I am in need of new suggestions. All else seems to be quick, responsive and without issues. --Larry

Wow......white text is so much easier to read.

Power options all in one area is great rather than having Reboot Recovery in Advanced :D

Love the swipe gestures as well.

Acer Recovery not recognizing this recovery.

Thanks

Yes, I think so... . It is a HC not ICS boot loader. If you have the acer recovery installer, it shows you the boot loader version. The correct nummber is 3.01
