How to get Lubuntu And Android To See 2 Partition Ext SD

Postby freightyard » 05 May 2013, 22:44

EDIT Sep 24 2013 = You should have 1.7.3 or 1.8.1 Tegraowners Recovery And Skrilax_CZ V8 or V9 multiboot bootloader installed
1. Format the SD with a partition manager to FAT 32
2 . Wipe the card if it's been used - worth the time
3. Split the partition if using minitool partition wizard
4. The first partition should be FAT 32 and Set as Primary
5. The second partition is still FAT32 - Format it to EXT4 and set as primary
Make changes as per Digetx instructions to install/update programs
1) open update_linux_installer-v1.zip and replace mmcblk1p1 -> mmcblk1p2 in META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
2) flash update_linux_installer-v1.zip
3) open update-kernel.zip and replace mmcblk1p1 -> mmcblk1p2 in kernel/mkbootimg.sh
4) flash update-kernel.zip
5) done

Note : the reason I am using V25 with test kernel 27 is that JB 4.2.2 v11 gave me serious lag/freeze problems in excess of 10 minutes when I was originally installed with single partition EXT4 sd card even with the newer update files .That might not be an issue now as Android should see a FAT 32 partition.
My personal preference for android is JB 4.1.x so I might try 4.2.2 just to see if it's resolved if no-one else configures their tab that way

What version of android are you using ?
the first FAT32 process i did with SDformatter for windows
are you sure the partitions are right if you used minitool you need to apply all the changes you selected even though it shows in the window it's changed (that's just pending until you hit the apply at top left.)
also open up the files you changed in the installler and make sure it got changed to mmcblk1p2 then zip them - other than that make sure there are 2 partitions only FAT32 primary - 1st. and EXT4 primary second.
I had one instance when i looked at sd in linux that it had applied an EXT3 before the EXT4 . Let me know if successful or not -just keep messing with it.

Formatted sdcard in minitool to Fat32 for the entire thing, applied. Then full format of the card in Windows. Split the single partition in minitool and moved the slider to be around 5gb first partition, and 10 the second. Formatting the 2nd partition to EXT4, right clicked and set as primary. Applied and waited. It shows both as primary one as fat32 other and ext4.

Extracted both zips with WirRar in windows, browsed and edited both places, 2 in the updater script and one in the .sh file. Zipped with Windows. Copied to usb stick. Inserted sd card into the tablet, booted recovery, mounted USB stick, went to flash the installer and it aborts almost immediately.

Any ideas?

well it sounds like the installer files
i never use winzip it causes problems
I use express zip and have never had a problem - compression level set to the fastest setting
if it's the sd card you will still see some cmd executions on the screen before it says done

Kinda what I was thinking so instead of re-zipping with windows I'm extracing and compressing both with winrar into a a zip.

And WinRAR -> edit files with a hex editor vs Notepad++ -> WinRAR as ZIP, copied to root of usb stick, so three files on root of USB, the installer, the updater, and the rootfs. It Finds, opens, says Installing Update, then immediately installation aborted.

Maybe I'll try to do it on ubuntu to make sure I'm not messing with rights somewhere.

You need to edit from the inside of the zip, dont extract.
I use Notepad+ that is free

I succeed now thank you for the help

I'm always started from fresh valid MD5 files when editing but I found my own stupid mistake....

I was including the folder they extracted to when re-compressing the zip files. So I had an extra folder in the root of the zip.

Thanks for the assistance...

they are the files on lubuntu OP
just download them and make necessary changes - It's not difficult .
I doubt if you'll like Linux much if you can't do the basics like these mods.
They can even easily be done in Android.
It's Thor and Digetx's hard work and I don't think it would be right for me to post them with the minor modifications to the scripts.

There's only three places to change it. Really only two that are functional, the third is the text output to the screen.
