I have fallen far behind in updating to the latest ROM (wife and I had our first child a few months ago and I have had no spare time). I am currently running android version 4.0.3. Kernel version 2.6.36.4-thor-V3.9r15. CyanogenMod Version Tegraowners ICS ROM v96.
Now, I am pretty good at following directions, and I read the first post on this thread. However, since I am so far behind in upgrading, I would appreciate someone giving me step-by-step instructions. I am sure I probably need to update some other things besides just the ROM.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Well, you certainly have your work cut out for you.
The first thing you should do is flash the unlocked ICS bootloader v8. There's a thread on XDA with very detailed instructions and blackthund3r's tools make it so much easier. This step isn't required for thor's ics rom but it might be needed for his upcoming jb rom and is needed to make best use of other ics roms.
Next you gotta make SURE you update the recovery to 1.7.3 or the latest rom won't install. It should be as simple as flashing a zip in Cwm. You should be able to download it from the link in the OP.
Next do a full nandroid backup or a titanium backup and wipe everything in Cwm. Everything. Then just flash the v170 file and configure the aroma options as you please.
Finally, don't forget to download and flash the latest gapps. I think the latest version is April 28th or something. Link is in the OP.
That's it I guess, you should be fully updated after this! Good luck!

Ran into some problems (what a shock). I am using blackthund3r's tools to try and figure out my SBK. However, every time I run the a500 manager and try to extract the serial number, I get the following error message: (/system/bin/sh: sed: not found/system/bin/sh: sed: not found/system/bin/sh: grep: not foundwrite: Broken pipe). From what I read, I think the a500 manager program will not work if the tablet has an older bootloader. My a500 is running bootloader version 3.01. So, I am not sure how to figure out the cpuid or the sbk. I may just go ahead and flash the new rom and worry about updating the bootloader later, if that would work??
thanks!
Don't think anyone replied to this and I've been ill for a few days so sorry
I got my CPUID from a Nandroid backup from CWM. I can't recall the exact file but search for the word backup on the XDA tutorial and you should get the exact file. As for the Serial Number.. I don't recall needing it but if I did I would have probably gotten it from the box.
Oh and I used Vache's SBK generator to get my SBK as I think it was the only method at the time.
Hope this helps!
